If you follow us on Instagram, you may have noticed us talking about a secret project we have in the works. Now it’s time to reveal what that secret project is!

Pennie Pendleton Pants the cat reached out to us a few months ago – which was really exciting since we are huge fans of her work – and she had an idea. She said, you guys already make fabric, why don’t you do thread too? And we said, Pennie, that’s such a good idea. You’re a really smart cat. Let’s do it.

After she brainstormed a little bit, Pennie thought of Sulky. Sulky is a family owned business that has been in operation for nearly 30 years with an attention to detail and quality that we really admire. So we started talking to Sulky, and one thing led to another.

And now, we are super excited to announce that Cotton+Steel is partnering with Sulky to develop an entirely new line of thread.

Cotton+Steel Thread by Sulky is 50 wt 100% long-staple Egyptian grown cotton that is spun in Egypt and dyed in Italy. It’s been meticulously tested both in the lab and by home sewists to ensure it’s the highest quality for piecing, quilting and general sewing.

We have chosen a hundred vibrant colors that will coordinate with any sewing project, especially Cotton+Steel fabrics. The thread is wrapped on multicolored spools and we designed twelve different playful labels, so everything together is really a nice dose of eye candy!

Cotton+Steel Thread by Sulky will be available to order at Fall ’16 Quilt Market and will ship in early 2017. We are so excited to be working with Sulky, and we can’t wait for you guys to see the thread. We think you’re gonna like it.

And so does Pennie.

I’ve never tried Sulky tread before, but have heard nothing but good things about it! I would love to give it a try…these colors are so gorgeous!

How can I find out what shops are selling this thread?

    • Cotton + Steel

We will be sending out a newsletter with the shops carrying the thread closer to the shipping date (March ’17.) You can sign up for our newsletter list on our website if you haven’t already! (Scroll to the bottom of the main page at cottonandsteelfabrics.com)
