We’re really excited to tell you about a brand new fabric series we are launching this fall called Cotton+Steel Friends! Cotton+Steel Friends will feature the work of artists outside the sewing industry. Each season, the C+S designers will invite an artist or illustrator whose work they admire to create a fabric collection.

We are thrilled to introduce you to the first designer in the C+S Friends series, the brilliant, talented Christian Robinson!

Christian is a picture maker and award winning illustrator living in San Francisco. He is a 2016 Caldecott Honoree and also received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for his art in Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Peña (Putnam, 2015). His other awards include a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year, a Coretta Scott King Award Illustration Honor from the American Library Association; a Boston Globe- Horn Book Nonfiction Honor; and a place on the Wall Street Journal’s 10 Best Children’s Books of the Year List. He has also worked with Pixar and The Sesame Street Workshop.

We love Christian’s quirky, vintage-inspired illustration style, and we can’t wait for you to see his fabrics! His collection Spectacle is available for shops to order now and will be shipping in March ’18. Here’s a sneak peek:

Be sure to follow along on Instagram as we show you more of Spectacle and the rest of our Fall ’17 collections next week during Quilt Market!

This is so awesome! There are so many incredible illustrators out there. If you don’t mind a librarian’s opinions, after this first (totally amazing) pick, I would love to see stuff from Elise Gravel, Sara Varon, Vanessa Brantley-Newton, Dan Santat, Liz Climo, David Petersen, Ben Hatke, Sean Tan, LeUyen Pham, Ben Clanton, David Wiesner, Andy Runton, etc, etc, etc. There’s sooooo many great artists these days!!

Center is their new collaboration with artist Christian Robinson. So colorful and whimsical and quirky. You can read more about this collaboration here. […]
